It is that time of the year again for the annual summer newsletter! I urge all parishioners young and old to please read this newsletter as there are important notices for all ages.

Collection Boxes:
COLLECTION BOX: In the Church there are SIX collection boxes.
Candle Box: These two boxes receive money for the votive candles.
Flower Box: This box is for flower contributions. Money donated goes to help defray any expenses in buying flowers. The two flower stands which we have on the altar cost in the region of £120 each time we buy fresh flowers. Thank you for your help.
Holy Souls: Money deposited in the Holy Souls box goes towards Masses for Holy Souls. Why masses are offered. It is the teaching of the Church that there is a process of purification in the light of human imperfection . A Mass for the Holy Soul purify the soul on its journey towards the beatification of God.
Poor Box: The parish has a duty to support those in particular who are genuinely in physical and practical need.
CTS: Any literature bought from the CTS rack.
Paper Box: Money for the sale of weekly Catholic Papers such as the Universe, The Catholic Times, The Irish Gazette and other devotional magazines.
Feast of the Assumption (HOLY DAY of OBLIGATION):
The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary: History - Celebrated every year on the 15 August the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into Heaven, before her body could begin to decay - a foretaste of our own bodily resurrection at the end of time. Because it signifies the Blessed Virgin's passing into eternal life, it is the most important of all Marian feasts and a Holy Day of Obligation.
The Feast of the Assumption is a very old feast of the Church, celebrated universally by the sixth century. The feast was originally celebrated in the East, where it is known as the Feast of the Dormition, a word which means "the falling asleep." The earliest printed reference to the belief that Mary's body was assumed into Heaven dates from the fourth century, in a document entitled "The Falling Asleep of the Holy Mother of God." The document is written in the voice of the Apostle John to whom Christ on the Cross had entrusted the care of his mother, and recounts the death, laying in the tomb, and assumption of the Blessed Virgin. Traditionally variously paces Mary's death at Jerusalem or at Ephesus, where John was living. Eastern Christians, both Catholic and Orthodox, continue to refer to the Feast of the Assumption as the Dormition of the Theotokos today..
Parish in Council Meeting:
The next Parish-in-Council Meeting will take place on Sunday 30th September. It is customary that after the 11.00am Mass we meet in the Hall for a buffet. The actual meeting starts at 1.00pm.
I look forward to see a representation of a cross section of the Parish. A true representation of ethnicity, age and talent to build a more cohesive and dynamic community.
Exploration of the Faith:
During the course of the year four candidates were received in Full union of the Catholic Church. In September we hope to start again, having meetings under the heading of 'Exploration of the Faith'.
Anyone interested to attend please make your intention known. Together we can explore the teaching of Jesus through the Magisterium of the Church in the light of the Catholic catechism.
